Bio

I've spent more years in print publishing than I'd care to talk about.

I've sold advertising, been a pasteup artist, set type on Phototypositor, Compugraphic, and Penta System, managed advertising for a weekly newspaper, stripped-up 4-color film at a web printer, manned the night desk doing spec for a quality type house — while also adding some ink and wash illustrations to the mix. I also developed some skill with an airbrush.

In 1989, I became an electronic pasteup artist on a Penta MakeupMaster.

Migrating to the Mac in 1990, I quickly learned QuarkXPress (2), Illustrator (88), and Photoshop (2.0). I was absolutely delighted to find a venue (the Mac) to use the diverse skills I had acquired in all those previous jobs. (And the bubble hasn't burst yet!)

Working at Weekly Reader, I built templates and organized production procedures for several weekly children's publications, did illustrations in both Illustrator and Freehand, and created any delicate or complex image composites in Photoshop, acted as troubleshooter and consultant to the art and prepress departments, and was trained as a backup operator on drum scanner and Iris proofer.

I've been independent since May of 1997. I now work in illustration, photo manipulation, and graphic design and production, including book design and game design.

I also teach at Middlesex Community College: Computer Graphics (spring semester) and Digital Page Design using InDesign CS2. I have also tutored privately in efficient QuarkXPress production techniques, and in transitioning from Quark to InDesign.

I have a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, and regularly add to my knowledge base with tutorials, seminars, and books.

I am an Adobe Certified Expert in InDesign CS2.
